Florida's Implementation of Trauma-Informed Care in Residential Settings for Youth, by Norìn Dollard, PhD, Assistant Professor; Victoria Hummer, MSW, LCSW, Technical Analyst; and Mary Armstrong, PhD, Assistant Professor and Division Director, Department of Child and Family Studies, Louis de la Parte, Florida Mental Health Institute, University of South Florida
Given the high rates of trauma exposure in youth in out-of-home settings, it is essential that youth receive evidence-based trauma assessment and treatment. This session will present statewide efforts to bring a trauma-informed perspective to all activities, including the expectation that all youth with or at-risk of emotional and behavioral disorders have experienced trauma. The session will present the results of a Florida study on trauma-informed care in out-of-home treatment settings in comparison to the literature on evidence-based and promising practices in trauma-informed care. Study findings were used to develop a curriculum for conducting organizational self-analysis on implementing trauma-informed care.
